Loch Lomond, Scotland
63Living Lake: Loch Lomond:
Beautiful Scotland
Ardlui Marina
A Poem
I wanted to write something that would blend perfectly with February but I didn't come close to what I would have wanted to write. The poem below is something that may come close to the deeper meaning of Valentine's Day, though not following its stated rhythm. It will still blend though being February's contrapuntal flow and certainly a part of life's whole.
Loch Lomond, Scotland
March 2002
Leaves that have shed off skin
like memory returning to paper
to wood and then to fire
send smokes that return
to the weight of words
never spoken on a night long gone.
One twilight in early spring
I was a ghost
left by a rain of leaves
retracing the daffodils
from Glasgow to Ardlui Marina.
I felt I scooped the entire lake
and poured it into a goblet
while I celebrated the gift of water
and of sunsets
that launched a fleet of paper boats.
Cathedrals and castles,
streams, wild flowers,
the gentle Scottish accent –
all in a flash
like the last line of a song
drowning in the goblet
in my hand.

luv ur play of romantic words . . . made me feel like i was there with you. daffodils. . is there anything more romantic than those flowers? scoop the entire lake into a goblet - it's so enchanting. France, ur a truly romantic poet. Do u have a book of poetry i could buy in bookstores?
"...like the last line of a song

You certainly captured the romance of the place, time and most of all the internal moment. A romantic poem during a romantic time of year. I like the indirect approach to love poetry a lot as opposed to the brash greeting card variety.
Wistful remembering deeply heart-touched by nature's beauty without drowning in sad longing. Thanks for the word treat!
Wow francia this is one visual poetry if ever there was one! Thanks for sharing, your language undulates! ;D
Great poem, thoughtful and evocative. Cool!

Lovely words Francia. Reminds me of my visits to those majestic hills and vast, still lochs.
I don't know that this isn't what you wanted to write, francia, but you wrote if beautifully! I feel like I just got a breath of Scottish air! Thanks!

Ladie, thanks for dropping here and leaving an encouraging comment.
Many of my poems have been published in magazines but I haven't really collected them to be published in one book. I'll send you my unpublished collection one of these days. By the way, I didn't succeed in sending you an email. I have sent a number of times but they all returned to me. But of course I can give you a copy of my collection when we meet again for our sound script.
